The Seal of Bilitercy is a test for language students who aim the become bilingual or able to speak two languages. The test if offered to students who have taken four or five years of their language and want to move on to the next level.

The test is taken in four sections: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. All together the test takes two plus hours to complete. On average the test should take about 2 hours leaving 30 minutes to complete each section. The reading section is composed of three sections, the first section is grammar, testing the students grammatical accuracy. The second section is multiple text reading, which shows the student’s ability to comprehend short passages. The last section is single text reading, which gives the students the opportunity to test their long passage reading skills. Listening is also done in three parts: one on one conversation, multiple person conversation, and question and answer. For the speaking portion of the test, the student is asked to speak at five different levels progressing from the easiest to the most difficult level. Writing is done in 2 sections one for question and answer, and the other is an essay portion.

“The difficulty of the Seal of Biliteracy test depends on your current proficiency in the tested languages, but overall, it is designed to measure a high level of language proficiency. Therefore, it does have a reputation for being challenging”(Collegevine).The test is scored on a scale of 1 - 6, a student would need a 4 or higher in every section in order to pass the test. The test is highly recommended by language teachers and counselors, to take, even if the likelihood of passing is slim because it grows the students education of their language and gives them an understanding of where they stand when it comes to their fluency in the language.
