The comedic play “Rumors” came alive on the stage in the Eagle Auditorium. This high-energy show premiered on November 9th with three showings. Written by Neil Simon, "Rumors" follows four couples celebrating their friends' tenth wedding anniversary. However, when the first couple arrives, they find Charley Brock wounded, and Myra Brock missing. The rest of the play follows an attempt to figure out what happened to the happy couple on the day of their anniversary party.

The story is set in the upper-class 80s so the cast and crew were meticulous about studying the 80s culture and applying the slang, styles, and architecture from that time period to make their show more realistic. The character's personalities are also super unique so that was something the actors had to put extra work into mastering and delivering appropriately.

This was the first production that drama teacher and director Laura Kambestad ran. “Even though I loved teaching Spanish, after 23 years I was ready to try something new. I had the opportunity when the drama position opened at the end of last year! I wanted to be challenged and get to know a lot of different students, so I jumped on the chance to go to the English department and teach Drama 1, 2, and 3,” said Kambstead. Building up the HHS theater program is something Kambstead is enthusiastically taking on. “I want to make Drama classes fun while upholding the academic integrity of the class,” said Kambstead.

The theater program is full of hard-working, and passionate students. “Rumors” was student-directed by senior Naomi Jarvis. “This was my first time directing, and I truly enjoyed it…my favorite part about working with the cast was that they're some of my closest friends. They're such a funny and talented group of individuals, and I feel so grateful to have directed them this year,” said Jarvis.

“The cast was super dedicated to their unique roles and putting on a great production, so they were super fun to work with,” said stage manager Anna Bush.
