Sophomore Evan Andre has a unique passion for music. Andre has been singing, acting, dancing, playing instruments, and using those abilities to perform since the age of five, which gave her the role of “Gretl” in The Sound Of Music at that young age. Her passion for music would not have been possible without the support, and careers, of her parents. “My parents were both very musically inclined. My father does audio-visual for many bands and performance groups and my mother is a choir director. They were more than happy to let me pursue that,” said Andre.

Not only is Andre prepping for her next role as “The Bird Lady” in the school's production of Mary Poppins, but she has been prepping her dance skills, as well as preparing for an upcoming audition. “Some of the most recent things I have been working on in the performance world are four different advanced classes at Ohana Dance Company (Tap, Jazz, Jazz Choreography, and Musical Theatre), preparing for auditions at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (a two-week vocal intensive camp in northern Michigan),” said Andre. She is constantly striving to be the best she can be and refuses to take new opportunities for granted.

The name Andre might sound familiar. Evan shares that name with Hudsonville Choir Director, Deborah Andre, whom Evan refers to as mom. Having to adapt to the lifestyle of having a mom as one of your teachers was not the easiest process, but soon it seemed to be the norm. “It was hard to find a way to address her at first, figuring out if I wanted to call her Mrs. Andre or just Mom (we settled with Mom, it just worked better). I'll see her outside of class sometimes, walking the halls to go pick something up or copy something, and it's more embarrassing then than it usually is other times because she makes a point to come and see me or talk to me,” said Andre.

Having a love for music has been with Evan since she was born and her talent shines wherever she goes. Evans' passion for music only grows deeper each day and it’s just the beginning of her amazing talent. She hopes to continue this passion for music by being a college professor teaching music and sharing the gift of music.
