Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, has announced that another book in the series is to be released in March of 2025. The new book will be a prequel called Sunrise on the Reaping.

In the original trilogy, the plot was about a dystopian society, where two children from each of the 12 districts are selected or “reaped” into the games, an event in which the tributes fight to the death in an elaborate arena. Every district has a mentor who won a previous Game. That mentor guides the tributes towards what they can do to survive and get sponsorships. Haymitch was the mentor of Katniss and Peeta in the first book. Sunrise on the Reaping will be his story and how he won the games.

Unlike the first book, his game was a Quarter Quell, meaning it had an additional twist to the games. Quarter Quells happen every 25 years. Haymitch was reaped in the 50th game. The twist for year 50 was each district would reap double the amount of kids, two girls and two boys, one of which was Haymitch.

After this book is released, there will be a total of two prequels. The order to read the books if going based on chronological order is: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Sunrise on the Reaping, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and finally, Mockingjay. Although that is the correct order based on chronology, some feel it would make the most sense to read them in the order they were released. Start with the original trilogy, then read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and when Sunrise on the Reaping comes out, read that one last.

Each book has its corresponding movie, and Sunrise on the Reaping will be no exception. The movie is set to come out in November of 2026. There has been speculation about who will be cast. Only one person has been confirmed Mike Faist will be playing Haymitch.

After the past four exceptional books, Sunrise of the Reaping will be a great addition to the world of Panem, giving more insight on the original characters lives and backgrounds.
