Math department recieves new “additions”

As of this school year, the school has introduced quite a few new teachers of all different departments to the staff. More specifically, there have been multiple math teachers added on.

One of the teachers that was interviewed was Pagiel Harmon is one of the schools new math teachers. Harmon graduated from Hudsonville in 2005, and her children go to school in the district, which is why she was drawn to apply for a job here. Harmon says she used to “teach” her brother how to do long division when she was in elementary school, and she’s always loved math, so she decided to pursue that as her career. She emphasizes that her passion for connecting and building relationships with her students, along with encouraging them and making the classroom a fun, supportive learning environment are all things that make her a standout teacher. She shared that principal Beel is her brother, and one thing on her bucket list is to take her family on a trip out west, similar to the trip they take in the summer science class. So far, Harmon has enjoyed her time here, and has loved all the support she’s been given.

Holly Hibma, is also a new math teacher. Hibma said that the reason she decided to go into teaching was because her middle school math teacher was funny and a good role model, and Hibma couldn’t imagine a better way of spending the rest of her life. Hibma said that she’s always enjoyed math, so much so that she took all the math classes her high school had to offer, including APs, and she had to dual enroll her senior year. Hibma thinks the thing that makes her a standout teacher is because she’s funny and compassionate. She has worked hard to make sure all her students are loved and cared for.
