Students have strong opinions about whether or not they like Christmas movies.

A survey was sent out to the student body, asking a total of four questions: their grade, if they think there are too many Christmas movies overall, if they plan on seeing any of the new Christmas movies coming out this year, and if they had any opinions about Christmas they felt the need to share. It was sent out to get a general basis of how students 9-12th grade felt about the state of Christmas movies.

Christmas movies are generally considered to be a staple of the Christmas season. It has been said many times that one of the best parts of winter is cozying up with hot cocoa and watching a movie. Many students shared the belief that movies tend to be a part of the season they actually look forward to, something that gets them more excited for Christmas.

Others disagreed, claiming that Christmas movies were utterly annoying, something overplayed and even unnecessary. This thought, for some, was even extended to Christmas music as well, claiming that they actively avoided it. This group tended to be the minority, however – most students tended to feel the complete opposite.

The results of the survey showed that 51.9% of students agree that there aren't too many Christmas movies overall; however, 31% claimed that there are too many. Regardless of how they answered about their general beliefs on Christmas movies, most students said they didn’t plan on seeing any of the new Christmas movies coming out this year.

The idea that there are too many Christmas movies has led to many students choosing to abstain from seeing them. “I think that…there are definitely too many movies circulating makes me want to go and see the movies less because I'm sick of seeing bad Christmas films,” said junior Evan Andre.

There are a number of Christmas movies that will be heading into theaters this year, with Dear Santa and Red One leading the charge due to heavy advertising. This could either work in their favor, or work against them big-time. “Overusing older concepts…and pooling them into these newer Christmas movies makes the originals less unique and the newer movies more boring,” said senior Elijah Lovell.

Unlike their decisive peers, 17.1% of students said they think there is just the right amount of movies out in the world right now. Senior Cam Rougea said that they thought there wasn’t a need for any more movies, considering that there’s already so many good ones out there. Some commonly loved classics among students were The Grinch, Home Alone, and Elf.

Despite the divisive opinions, it’s clear that Christmas is a treasured holiday for many. “It is the best time of the year,” said freshman Brayden Jost.
