Join the mountain biking club and explore local trails with History teacher Eric Hune

The school has a variety of clubs, and mountain biking is one of them. History teacher Eric Hune is the face of the Mountain Biking Club. Mountain Biking Club is open to anyone looking to ride 1-2 times per week where you would enjoy the local mountain bike trails. Members learn the basics of riding, cleaning their bikes proper safety checks, and how to care for the trails. If someone has a mountain bike, a helmet, and a water bottle then they qualify. The next step is to just show up for one of the group rides.

Mountain Biking Club takes place in the Fall and continues as long as the weather allows. The club explores the trail at Evergreen in Hudsonville, Grand River Park in Jenison, and the Upper Macatawa Natural Area in Zeeland. The club is open to anyone. Some kids are very serious about it and some do it just for a fun time. Both boys and girls are welcome to participate and kids from any grade level can participate as well. If a student wants an intense experience and has the need for speed, this is for them. It is truly a thrill and an adventure, the adrenaline rush keeps everybody going back for more. Every pedal stroke gives the power and freedom that other activities lack.

If this is interesting but someone has no experience, don’t worry, there is no experience necessary. Mountain Biking Club has kids who have experience and do races as well as kids who have never been on a mountain bike trail before. Hune started mountain bike racing after college, immediately fell in love with it, and wanted to share the greatness of this activity with the school. “There is no better feeling than ripping through the woods on two wheels,” said Hune.
