Before the start of this school year, a large amount of new teachers were added to the staff. Along with the new teachers in the math department, there have also been a few new teachers added to the foreign language and English department.

Chloe Cavalli, who added on to teach Spanish, said she wanted to teach Spanish because she is Venezuelan and it has always been a big part of her life. She loves teaching about the different cultures that help people feel seen or that help them learn more in order to broaden their horizons and perspectives on the world. Cavalli believes that she can be a standout teacher because she has a passion for what she does. She says she cares about teaching Spanish, but she cares more about her students as people and loves being able to watch her students grow as time goes on. The thing on the top of Cavalli’s bucket list is to go to Angel Falls in Venezuela. She hopes to be able to see the waterfall someday because it is the largest waterfall in the world, and it has an incredible view.

Charity East, a teacher added to the English department, decided to be a teacher because she used to struggle in school. East says she was told she wouldn’t be able to graduate or go to college, but teachers she had encouraged her to push herself and it was because of them that she pursued it. She says she chose this subject because there is power in words. She says there are things to be learned, heard, and experienced through literature, or anything written truthfully. East believes that as a teacher, her students have as much to teach her as she has to teach them. East graduated from Hudsonville in 2000, and her kids go to school here.
