Expand the mind and find escape: the healing powers of reading

Reading gets the mind working across different areas. For starters, it involves comprehension to process the words that are read. Beyond that, a person can use their analytical abilities, stimulate memories, and even broaden their imagination by reading words off a page. According to History Today reading can “be information overload where the brain starts working below its normal capacity simply because there is too much data for it to process at once” said mental health excerpt Kern Daly. Being at school all day and being told to read a lot of things can feel overwhelming for students.

However, there are many benefits to reading such as it helps people be able to think about things in new ways, learn about cultures, events, and people you may have never otherwise heard of, and adopt methods of thinking that help to reshape or enhance your identity. Books are not only the best friends but also the best healers.

While reading a book, a person can forget one's worries, anxiety, and tension.  A person might feel like living in a different world for some time, eventually reducing stress. Reading requires conscious thought and effort on the part of the reader. This can lead to a natural tendency to think and observe, as well as promote a better understanding of how the world works. While also having a boost to your communication skills. Is reading all bells and whistles, though? Between work, responsibilities, and household chores, some are lucky if they have time to sleep, let alone read. Reading can also take so much time, especially when some books have a thousand pages. It could take months for some. It's easier not to try. But the pluses outweigh the negatives.
