Along with winter sports like basketball, hockey, and wrestling, the school offers students a chance to participate in winter drumline. The group is led by business education teacher Phil Matthews and is a combination of marching percussion, or battery, and the front ensemble, or pit. Auditions take place between late November and early December and the season lasts until early April when they perform their show in the WGI (Winter Guard International) world finals. The group meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as occasional Saturday practices. Students looking to join this group can be in any grade, starting in seventh. They are not required to know how to play a percussion instrument, but they must be in band.

Being in Winter Drumline is a considerable time commitment for teens and requires a lot of effort. “It is a very physically and mentally demanding activity, which involves playing difficult music along with moving around on a floor doing specialized moves and marching,” said Ryan King, a snare player. Despite all the work being in this group takes, almost all the students return season after season. The students become better at their instruments and improve their musical skills throughout the season. They also become better at communication, leadership, and problem-solving. They take part in difficult tasks that test their body and mind and their ability to multitask. “Through winter percussion I have learned instrumental leadership and teaching skills that will help me in the future, as I plan to march indoor percussion at the professional level in college as well,” said cymbal player Connor Fought.

Winter Drumline is a positive and welcoming community of students and staff with a shared passion for percussion and a drive for excellence. While working on their show they create strong friendships and lasting memories. The 2025 season has already started, and this year's show: Grave, is in the works Their first public performance was on February 22nd in the central gym of the high school.
